The following are the fanfiction stories I have liked on LJ and fanfiction.net.

personal favourites (can be found by looking up author pages on LJ unless stated otherwise):

top three
From the Desert to the Tower, an_lagat_glas
Fallout, bookishy (her fic page is bookishy_fic
Persistence of Memory,  lady_t_220 (her fiction is at den_of_folly)

on to top seven - not in ranking order
Weekend at Vasey's, aoxelfrieda
The Lady of Nottingham, ladykate63
Illusions, theearth (here on ffnet)
(all of the above are Guy/Marian)

Everything is a Choice, jadey36 (also here on ffnet; eventually Guy/Robin)
ETA The same author is writing a wonderfully tense and sexy sequel, Endgame, also on her journal.

There are plenty more to be found on guyxmarian and on ffnet and I quite like some of them, esp some short ones, but these IMHO are the best.

A few other very good stories are WIP with uncertain takeup prospects (Exchange of Vows (vividviolet), Fortune's Wheel (an_lagat_glas), Most Unwanted (hulamoth), Sober (inabsentialuci)). vaknathi has written beautiful Guy (/Marian) stories but the most promising of them, Eclipse of the Moon, is unfinished, and word is that he has left the fandom.

For good NC-17 laughs, get Dangerous to Know (fedoralady). For raunchy but more serious adventures, the splendid Pleasure for Pleasure (spikesbint) and the famous Countess (ficmuse), and for shorter adult fun read the delicious In Your Eyes and I Never Said Sorry but I Honestly Meant to, and maybe the raunchiest of them all this side of hardcore slash, The Gaps Between (all by lady_t_220).

On the fun side of things, other than the great Weekend at Vasey's, have really enjoyed the humorous short stories on shinysparks' LJ page. Her Guy and Marian, for once, are able to be lighthearted together. Still, the Guy-Robin-Allan (NOT Guy/Robin/Allan!) s3 pranks (Teamwork, The Adventures of Sir Geoffrey and Lord Robert, and Alterations) are the best. (ETA she now also posts links to her new and equally fabulous sketches on the lordgisborne comm).
Another humorous beauty is grey_mills's friend_hood log.- Unfortunately, it stalled after three updates, but they are well worth a read.

Can also recommend Desert Secrets (Kimmeth, here on ffnet), Precious Things (claudia_writes), Prisoners of Circumstance (spikesbint), and A Battle of Wills (susangrace). sandrine, littledivinity, and katrushkalupin have great short stories.

Also, Cluelss Lust by thymelady is charmingly sexy and funny. Save Me (inabsentialuci) and Whispers (thelilalbatross) are two more excellent shorter tales.

Wolf's Head by corrielle, posted in bigbanghood Dec 2009, is an interesting, well-plotted and well-written partial-role-reversal twist where *Guy* is the outlaw. The above-mentioned Everything is a Choice by jadey36 is an exploration of the complex relationship between Guy and Robin (written from Robin's PoV but really draws you in).

...and if you happen to like consensual Guy/Robin, my sinful little secret, do check out Lion's Heart and King of the Oak by grenegome  Sexy, funny, and beautifully written.

Just my take, anyway. Probably missed a few more I liked. Definitely missed a lot of short ones. PM me if you have trouble finding any of these.

  • ILU for posting this, because now I don't have to thumb all the way back to your comment that had these fic titles. You have no idea how lazy I am about cleaning my inbox!
    • Am glad something good is coming out of my long-delayed leap of faith in putting stuff on my page. Having actually _made_ things I could stick here has given me a reason, and all our discussions have given me courage. And I got around the update problem by posting things that are more or less here to stay.
      • Yay! She's been prised from her shell! ;) And a darn fine selection of entries they are, too.

Glad to see stuff on your page at last. Now I don't have to worry that LJ or my browser are screwing up. lol
  • I can't tell you how flattered I am to be on that list. I can't. I could offer marriage, because actions speaks louder than words. 8-)

    Thank you!
    • *blushes*
You totally deserve it because good AND funny Guy/Marian stories are a rare thing. Those two need to lighten up, though I am guilty as charged of being stuck in the serious mode now that I tried writing them. *runs off to find About to be Robbed and comment*
      • LOL, you are too right! Aaahh, but serious mode is the THING! Makes the bright so much brighter. :-)

Am really looking forward to more of Ransome, your writing is so addictive! Love the way you convey their feelings AND how you convey the sense of 'being there', in a historically accurate setting! That's like Christmas to me!

Friended you, hope that's OK. :-)
        • (replying post factum after friending you back, but anyway) of course it is OK! I do not update the journal all that much but try to keep up the links to the more entertaining stuff I posted elsewhere. If I kept a journal of everyday things it might devolve into endless swearing at the managers at my office, and who needs that when there is Guy to talk about?!
  • Hello, having read several of your recommendations I whole-heartedly agree . . . and I am so gratified to see my "Dangerous to Know" listed among them.
Many thanks! I laughed a lot when I wrote it . . . and am glad to know I brought laughter to others. Except maybe Jonas Armstrong. Something tells me he wouldn't have found it all that amusing . . . Have enjoyed our "chats"!
    • The recommendation is well deserved!

*I brought laughter to others. Except maybe Jonas Armstrong. Something tells me he wouldn't have found it all that amusing*
...no, not with Cyril stealing the spotlight! :D

...as you see I do not make a lot of posts - instead I stick stuff into existing ones by way of an update, but am trying to keep all the nice links and recs together where they can be seen.

      Talk again soon I hope!
      • I have to blame BBCA for Cyril . . . a documentary about women who were sexually attracted to inanimate objects . . . and one gal was an archery champ who had sex with her bow . . . and so I thought, "Hmmmm . . . a bow . . . Robin . . . yessssssss." And then of course I keep throwing my actual cat into the stories, but then Puddie does love the limelight.

You have things nice and orderly. Two thumbs up!!

I don't post as often as I should sometimes, or get as much reading done as I want to, because of that pesky thing known as RL, my job, spouse, three canines (Beau, Elvis and Rascal)outside and four felines (Puddie, Callie, Thumper and Lucky) inside. And my personal addiction to writing about a certain tall, dark-haired, toothsome bloke I know of . . .
        Cheers to you, Cheers!

        Angie aka fedoralady aka Ladywriter
        • Hi Angie, sorry to pester you. I had a question for you re the dreamerfiction site since you mentioned it on the yuku board and left a post there in your fiction thread - could you possibly check it and drop me a line, either there or here? Basically, someone on ffnet has suggested that I post my stories on DF but I had an... interesting experience trying to register there a couple of months ago that left me pissed off, so I want to know if the amount and quality of Guy fic in there is worth jumping through the registration hoops. Any tips will be much appreciated.
          ciao
          Anna
    • You're not pestering me a bit. There is some very good quality (and plentiful) Guy fic at DF . . . the secret is, you have to be referred there, more or less.
Because there is a lot of stuff of an adult nature, (like mine), they want to make sure they don't have any under-agers (as some members basically just read rather than write as well). One thing I like about DF is it is very user-friendly re posting and reading.

So if you would like, I can send Ali a PM and let her know you are interested, that I know you through LJ and you would be a good candidate for the board. Would you use your same user name?
      • That would be awfully nice of you! I will take you up on the kind offer, I am always curious to read more Guy fic. I guess staying as 01cheers is the easiest thing, especially if I am going to post anything I wrote so that people who have seen it elsewhere know it is the same thing. I guess my trying to register there as "lurker" (yes, srsly) was not the smartest move ;)
        • Well, I was voted "Sweetest" in my senior class (although I nabbed "Most Talented" for my yearbook slot, it sounded cooler than the sweet stuff *wink*)

I PMed Ali at DF and told her I was vouching for you as an RA fic writer and major Guy fan and you would use your LJ user name there.

          You will see some familiar people from LJ and some new faces, too. Yeah, not too keen on lurkers there . . . ( ;

          Angie
          • Thank you! Will give it a shot tomorrow. It might not be very obvious on LJ, but elsewhere, lurking has been my typical MO. There is something about Richard, I think, that made me de-lurk ;)
            • Richard has caused me to do a number of things unknown to me before . . . joining fan sites, writing fan fics, strongly considering writing a fan letter, reading everything I can find about him and doing my best to collect every performance of his on DVD . . . I have NEVER felt about another actor the way I feel about RA.

And the more I learn about him, the more I adore him. *sigh*
              • Me too. I have been known to do quite a bit reading-and-collecting before (starting with the obscure Timothy Dalton on to Harrison Ford on to Kenneth Branagh and Robert Redford and Tommy Lee Jones and Russell Crowe and ultimately Sean Bean before finally discovering Richard) but I never went to the lengths of fansites and fanfics - but in Richard's case, the obsession is too strong to resist and the fandom fun too great to miss ;)
                • I had an early crush on Timothy Dalton and enjoyed seeing him again in "The Lion in Winter" over the weekend . . . my husband had to leave the room when my sister and I were watching Robert Redford in "The Way We Were" while visiting her home . . .we had started salivating, apparently and he politely excused himself to go read a book *grin* Robert is one of my exceptions to my "Like Them Tall, Dark and Handsome" motto. Oh, Han Solo! Harrison was always much more appealing to me than Mark in the Star Wars movies . . . love Sean as Sharpe . . .Tommy Lee is a brilliant actor . . .altogether an admirable collection of gents you've shipped.

Richard is simply a breed apart. I've met some of the brightest, most talented, funny, lovely people along the way since discovering The Luscious One. He is The Total Package - a brilliant character actor inhabiting a leading man's face and physique, in possession of glorious speaking voice; he's a dedicated professional, a modest, down-to-earth person in real life and possessing a sunny, sweet nature (I adore the fact he says the character he's most like in RL is Harry Kennedy). A high-caliber human being who attracts a very nice class of admirers. ( :

    • Hey!
I must go on record as saying that I am officially the worst "correspondent" ever. You were criticising yourself for replying to me a puny couple of months later - how about half a year and counting?! Truth is, I had a lot of thoughts to write back about - too many perhaps - and then fell into the usual pattern of needing time and the right state of mind to write a "serious" reply vs. getting either too busy or too tired/depressed. The past two months were a shake-up of sorts, what with me having spent six weeks on business in the US and having had family troubles (now largely over), but I am back in Rome now and can breathe easier for a bit. And mind my words, I *will* reply to you re: my thoughts on Guy-fancying :D

And I am very glad if you find the recs list useful. Illusions was finished in late autumn I think and is a terrific read - and do check out Persistence of Memory, which is a real gem!
